My nickname ‘Jumbo’ was coined by none other than Navjot Singh Sidhu : Anil Kumble

Indian Cricket Team’s newly appointed head coach Anil Kumble interacted with fans via BCCI’s Live Twitter on Tuesday (5th July 2016).

In his Twitter interaction which was named as #AskTheCoach, he revealed the master-mind behind the origin of his nickname ‘Jumbo’.

Here’s the question asked by his fan followed by the answer :

“My nickname was coined by none other than Navjot Singh Sidhu. This was in an Irani Trophy game when I was playing for Rest of India at the (Feroze Shah) Kotla. He was standing at his customary mid-on position and one of the balls (from me) really took off. He said ‘Jumbo Jet’. The ‘Jet’ got dropped off and Jumbo remained. Ever since all my team-mates call me Jumbo.”, said Anil Kumble.
