Team India’s star player Ravichandran Ashwin did wonders against West Indies in the First Test match played at Antigua. First, he scored his maiden overseas hundred in the 1st innings and later picked up a 7 wicket haul in the 2nd innings after India enforced the home team for a follow on.
Here is the statistical highlight of records created and broken by Ashwin :
1.) Ashwin scored his maiden overseas hundred outside Asia in the first innings on Day 2.
2.) On Day 4, Ashwin picked up his maiden 5-wicket haul outside Asia in Test cricket. His previous best was 4/105 against Australia at Sydney in January 2015.
3.) Ashwin has joined the elite group of Ian Botham and Gary Sobers who have achieved the combination of a century and 5-wicket haul in the same match at home and away in Tests.
3.) Ashwin became the 3rd spinner to achieve the combination of a century and 5-wicket haul in a Test match on two occasions. Mushtaq Mohammed and Shakib Al Hasan earlier achieved this feat.
4.) Ashwin is now the third player to score a century and pick up a 7-wicket haul in the same Test match. Ian Botham had done it twice while Jack George did it once.
5.) Ashwin has now picked up at least one 4-wicket haul in 10 consecutive Test matches breaking Bishan Singh Bedi’s India record of 9 consecutive Tests with at least one 4-wicket haul.
6.) No Indian bowler has better bowling figures in West Indies than Ravichandran Ashwin’s 7/83. The previous record was held by Subhash Gupte who picked up 7/162 at Port of Spain.
7.) Ashwin’s tally of 17 five-wicket hauls is the most by any spinner in his first 33 Tests.
