The highest number of runs scored in an over is not 36. It’s 77 !

When we are asked about the maximum runs scored in an over, the names which come to our mind are of Sir Garry Sobers, Yuvraj Singh and Herschelle Gibbs, since they hit 6 sixes in an over and the total runs counts to be 36. But this is not the limit !

On February 1990, Bert Vance went for more than twice the number of runs which you first thought of.

The incident took place on the final day of Wellington’s Shell Trophy match between Canterbury and Wellington in Christchurch. Vance conceded 77 runs in his one single over.

The over till conclusion went as follows : 0444664614106666600401.

And since then Vance’s over is consigned to being a footnote in the record books.

Here is the scorecard of that unforgettable match :

The highest number of runs scored in an over is not 36. It's 77 !
