Sourav Ganguly reveals his all-time XI

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has named his All-Time XI. In a video shared on Lords Cricket Ground’s official Youtube channel, Ganguly has chosen former Australian Ricky Ponting as the skipper for his side.

Ganguly’s criteria: the cricketers he has played with or against. Ganguly has picked the Australian left-hander Matthew Hayden as an opener along with England’s current Test skipper Alastair Cook. At No. 3, comes in Rahul Dravid, followed by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar at no.4.

The South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis is at No. 5, followed by Kumar Sangakkara at No. 6, who also is the wicketkeeper of the side. At No. 7 comes in Ricky Ponting, which is surprise part in Ganguly’s team. Since Ponting has played mostly at no. 3 for his country, no. 7 spot for him may sound a bit awkward. But no, the prince of Kolkata makes it clear that Ponting may bat up the order and it is not necessary that he will bat at that spot.

Much like he would have done in his playing days, Ganguly has filled out the team with two pacers and two spinners. The pacers include Glenn McGrath and Dale Steyn, two bowlers who have faced Ganguly as a batsman during their respective career. In a distinct similarity with all those who picked their respective XI’s, Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan, the highest wicket-takers in the world complete the side.

Here is the complete list of players in Sourav Ganguly’s All-Time XI:

1.) Matthew Hayden
2.) Alastair Cook
3.) Rahul Dravid
4.) Sachin Tendulkar
5.) Jacques Kallis
6.) Kumar Sangakkara (wk)
7.) Ricky Ponting (c)
