India’s women cricketer Smriti Mandhana has signed a one-year deal with Brisbane Heat for the second edition of the Women’s Big Bash League.
Thus, Mandhana became the second Indian women’s player to sign up for the WBBL after Harmanpreet Kaur signed a contract with the defending champions Sydney Thunder.
“It feels great to be a part of Big Bash. I’ve always been looking forward to playing in that tournament. And getting this opportunity to participate at such a young age and getting to gain good experience from it, will help me immensely in the future. I’m very fortunate to have been signed with them,” Smriti is quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
When India toured Australia in January this year to play three ODI’s and three T20I’s, Smriti scored a century in the 50-over game played at Hobart. However, her gallant effort went in vain as Australian Women team won the encounter by six wickets.
She played an important role in India’s first ever T20I series win against Australia, when she notched up crucial knocks of 29 and 22 not out at the Adelaide Oval and Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) respectively. Her only fifty in the shortest format came in 2014 against South Africa.
