Dhoni might not have retained captaincy if India lost: Sourav Ganguly

Team India won their first home series in last 2 years under MS Dhoni‘s captaincy as they defeated New Zealand by 190 runs in the final ODI played at Vizag to clinch the series by 3-2.

It was an important series win for Dhoni, since he last won on home soil against West Indies in a truncated five-match series by 2-1. Later in December 2015, India lost the series to South Africa by 3-2.

Meanwhile, former captain Sourav Ganguly believes that Dhoni would have been on the trail to losing his captaincy if not for winning the Vizag ODI.

“He’ll be happy with this win in Vizag. Had India lost this series, Dhoni would have been under enormous pressure to retain his spot as captain. He’s fought hard and he’s fought hard with the bat today as well. He deserves this win,” Ganguly told India Today.
