India vs New Zealand Day 2, Second Test 2016 : Bhuvneshwar Kumar picks his first 5 wicket-haul on home soil

On Day 2 of the second Test between India and New Zealand being played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was drafted into the side in place of Umesh Yadav keeping in mind the grass on the pitch grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

The 26-year-old returned figures of 5/33, cleaving through New Zealand’s batting and picking his first 5 wicket-haul on the home soil.

After the end of the third session of the day’s play, as the Indian players gathered at the centre of the field, there was a heart-felt hug between Bhuvneshwar and captain Virat Kohli.

Later, as Bhuvi turned around to greet his other teammates, he felt a grip on his right arm. It was the skipper, who was pushing him to the front of the players, asking him to lead the team off the field.

Day 2 had certainly been Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s day, and captain Kohli could hardly not recognise this.

After the end of day’s play, when asked about his favourite wicket of the day, Bhuvi said Ross Taylor’s wicket was the one he cherished the most among the five he took on Saturday.

“Ross Taylor’s wicket pleased me the most,” Bhuvneshwar said after the end of the day’s play at the Eden Gardens here.

At the press conference, Indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha lauded Bhuvneshwar’s efforts.

“He bowled beautifully. The wicket assisted bowlers and I thought the way he went about his job was exceptional. Even (Mohammed) Shami, Ash (Ravichandran Ashwin), Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja) bowled well,” Saha said.
