Swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who picked his first five-wicket haul on the Indian soil in the Kolkata Test, has been ruled out of the third and the final Test against New Zealand due to a back strain.
According to a BCCI release, Bhuvneshwar sustained the injury during the second Test in Kolkata. Shardul Thakur has replaced him in the Indian squad.
Bhuvi’s injury is a major blow to India’s pace attack in this series.
Earlier experienced Ishant Sharma was also ruled out of the series, after being diagnosed with the mosquito-borne viral infection chikungunya.
Thakur is yet to play a Test match for India. The Mumbai seamer was first called-up to the squad during India’s tour of the West Indies in July-August.
