Virender Sehwag reveals how MS Dhoni saved Virat Kohli’s Test career

Former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag, who is now famous for his quirky comments in the commentary box, recently told an interesting anecdote that eventually turned out to be a turning point in Virat Kohli‘s career.

While on-air for Star Sports, Sehwag revealed that Kohli was not the first choice for selection for the 3rd Test at Perth during India’s tour of Australia in 2012.

Sehwag told how current captain of the Indian limited overs team MS Dhoni played a pivotal role in guiding Kohli’s career in the right direction.

“The selectors wanted to play Rohit Sharma instead of Kohli at Perth in 2012,” said Sehwag. “I was vice-captain and Dhoni was leading the team, and we decided that we have to back Kohli. The rest is history.”

Virat went onto to score 75 and 44 at Perth, followed it up with his maiden Test century at Adelaide.
