WATCH : Umesh Yadav almost making a mess of Joe Root’s return catch

On day 1 of the first Test against England at Rajkot, Indian pacer Umesh Yadav almost made a mess of Joe Root‘s return catch.

This all happened, when English batsman, Joe Root was batting on 124 and drove a delivery straight back to the bowler Umesh Yadav.

Yadav comfortably pouched the catch of Root but in an attempt to celebrate the wicket, he threw the ball immediately in the air and then realising his mistake rushed back to catch the ball again only to fail.

Root was convinced that the catch was not clean and asked for a review. Therefore, TV umpire, Rod Tucker, had to make the decision that the catch taken by Yadav was fair.

According to Law 32 (mode of dismissal: caught) of the cricket rule-book, “The act of making the catch shall start from the time when a fielder when a fielder first handles the ball and shall end when a fielder obtains complete control both over the ball and over his own movement”.
