On 22nd December, India’s star cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin joined the list of legends like Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Rahul Dravid (2004), Ricky Ponting (2006 and 2007) and Kumar Sangakkara (2012), after winning the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for his all-round performance.
Ashwin picked up 72 wickets from 12 Tests this year, for which he was also named the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year, becoming the third Indian cricketer to win the award after Rahul Dravid in 2004 and Gautam Gambhir in 2009.
Here are the six reasons why Ravichandran Ashwin deserves to be the ICC cricketer of the year 2016:
6.) Ashwin has a batting average of 42.0 and a bowling average of 15.39, while Ben Stokes, the other all-rounder in the ICC Test Team has batting average of 36.33 and a bowling average of 31.65.
5.) Picking up 32 wickets, the 32 year-old became the leading wicket taker of the 3 match Test series against South Africa played in 2015.
