Stats: Prithvi Shaw becomes the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut

Prithvi Shaw created history on Thursday by becoming the youngest Indian to score a Test century on debut. Shaw, at 18 years and 329 days, reached the three-figure mark off just 99 balls on Day 1 of the first Test against the Windies at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.

The 18-year-old, who opened the innings for India, reached the landmark off just 99 deliveries in the 33rd over of first innings bowled by West Indian medium-pacer Keemo Paul.

Shaw has now become the fourth youngest to score a hundred in Tests at the age of 18 years and 329 days which puts him just behind Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ashraful, Zimbabwe’s Hamilton Masakadza and Pakistan’s Saleem Malik. The next in the list is Mohammad Wasim which means four of the top five youngest debut ton scorers in Tests are from Asia.

Shaw was dismissed after scoring 134 runs off 154 balls and added 206 for the second wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara (86) before both batsmen fell in the post-lunch session.
