Team India thrashed Sri Lanka by 62 runs in the first T20I of the ongoing three-match series at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday.

Chasing the humungous target of 200, the visitors never really looked like they were in any contest as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Apart from Charith Asalanka, who remained unbeaten on 53, no other batter stood out in front of the top-quality Indian bowling unit. Eventually, Sri Lanka only managed to reach 137/6 in 20 overs, losing the match by 62 runs.

For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/9) and Venkatesh Iyer (2/36) picked up two wickets each, while Yuzvendra Chahal (1/11) and Ravindra Jadeja (1/28) bagged one wicket apiece.

Earlier, Ishan Kishan sizzled with a blazing knock to roar back into form. Ishan demolished the Sri Lankan bowling attack from the word go to help the hosts post a massive 199/2 in their allotted 20 overs.

The explosive left-handed batter took the Lankan bowlers to the cleaners smashing 89 off 56 balls with the help of 13 boundaries, including three sixes.

Ishan and Rohit Sharma took the side to a flyer as the duo formed a dominating partnership of 111 runs for the opening wicket. Captain Rohit made 44 from 32 deliveries before Lahiru Kumara cleaned him up. Shreyas Iyer also chipped in with a valuable unbeaten 57 off 28 balls to take the home team to a big total.
