Pakistan skipper Babar Azam didn’t have a good time so far in the ongoing second Test against Australia in Karachi. Riding on Usman Khawaja‘s splendid knock of 160 off 369 balls, the visitors posted a humungous 505/8 at stumps on Day 2.

However, there was one moment of joy for Babar when he got to celebrate a rare wicket in the longest format. Babar denied wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey his maiden Test ton after cleaning him up on 93, which was Australia’s 8th and final wicket of the day.

The incident took place during the 178th over of Australia’s innings when Carey was looking comfortable at 93, just seven short of reaching the triple-figure mark. Babar came round the wicket and bowled a flighted delivery. Carey saw the opportunity and tried to sweep the ball, but he ended up missing it, and the red-cherry went and hit the stumps.

Here is the video:

Carey, who missed out on what could be his first Test ton, reflected on his dismissal, stating it was unfortunate, but for him, it was just a number, and that’s how it goes in the game.

“It’s a number – so close, unfortunately, but that’s the way it goes. I thought I was pretty disciplined and patient throughout the day, and to be honest, I saw an opportunity to hit one over the cow (corner) late in the day, a pretty big gap out there,” said Carey, as quoted by Cricket.com.au.

“My head will probably hit the pillow tonight and have a few other shots go through my head, but that’s the beauty of this game. When I came back into the rooms, there was eight other blokes saying they would have played the same shot. I don’t know if that’s comfort or not, but I take a bit of confidence out of that,” he added.
