India ended Day 2 of the first Test match of the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 on a high and have secured a decent 144 runs lead with three batters still to bat courtesy of Rohit Sharma’s magnificent ton.

India resumed the play on 77/1 with nightwatchman Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit at the crease. However, Ashwin got out quite early on a score of 23, while the India skipper went on to score his 9th century in the red-ball format. He scored 120 runs off 212 deliveries with the help of 15 fours and two sixes.

After Rohit’s ton, wickets kept falling for India at regular intervals until Ravindra Jadeja came into bat and stitched a masterful half-century innings. Further post-Rohit’s dismissal, Jadeja was supported by Axar Patel, who also scored a convincing fifty and built an 81-run unbroken stand with the fellow Gujarat cricketer.

Both Jadeja and Axar are currently unbeaten at a score of 66 and 52 runs with India at 321/7 and will take the charge On Day 3. On the other hand, the Aussie debutant Todd Murphy scalped five wickets for his team. Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins picked up one wicket each.

As far as the two Indian debutants are concerned, Suryakumar Yadav and KS Bharat failed to impress with the bat in the match’s second innings and were both sent back to the pavilion on a score of 8.
