India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana was the first player to be sold at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 auction in Mumbai on Monday (February 13). The left-handed batter was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a whopping price of INR 3.4 crore, making her the costliest buy of the inaugural WPL auction.

After Mandhana, RCB also acquired the services of New Zealand captain Sophie Devine and Australia superstar Ellyse Perry for the price of ₹50 lakh and ₹1.7 crore, respectively.

World no. 1 T20I bowler, Sophie Ecclestone, with an opening bid of ₹50 lakhs, was sold to UP Warriorz for ₹1.80 Crore.

Mumbai Indians (MI) opened their account by signing India captain Harmanpreet Kaur for ₹1.8 crore, while Aussie all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner went to Gujarat Giants for ₹3.2 crore.

U-19 World Cup winner Shafali Verma was bought by Delhi Capitals at a price of ₹2 crore.
