Shakib Al Hasan delivered a superb all-round performance in the third and last ODI of the three-match series between Bangladesh and England on Monday in Chattogram. His brilliant effort with both bat and ball helped Bangladesh register a 50-run victory over England, denying them a clean sweep in the three-match series.

Shakib’s left-handed batting prowess was on display as he scored a quick-fire 75 off 71 deliveries to take Bangladesh to a fighting total of 246 runs. He was well supported by Mushfiqur Rahim (70) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (53), who also notched up half-centuries. However, the last six batsmen failed to build on the middle order’s partnerships, which prevented Bangladesh from posting a bigger total.

England started their run-chase well with Jason Roy and Phil Salt’s 54-run partnership. However, they soon lost three quick wickets, including that of Roy, as Shakib destroyed England’s top order. James Vince, Sam Curran and Jos Buttler got starts, but wickets fell regularly, and England’s hopes of a victory faded.

Shakib almost completed a five-wicket haul when he trapped Jofra Archer lbw with his final delivery. But Archer successfully reviewed the decision, and Chris Woakes became the last wicket to fall in the next over. Shakib’s figures of 4-35 in his ten overs proved to be instrumental in Bangladesh’s victory. He also became the first Bangladesh player to complete 300 wickets in the 50 overs format.

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat, but England’s all-rounder Curran gave them an ideal start by dismissing both openers in his first spell. Despite the early setbacks, Bangladesh’s middle order showed resilience, and Shakib’s all-round show helped Bangladesh earn a consolation win in the series.
