The first-ever Women’s Hundred draft took place on Thursday (March 23) alongside the men’s draft, with eminent players like Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry getting retained by their respective teams. While Smriti got reunited with Southern Brave, Perry was reappointed by Birmingham Phoenix.

On the other hand, Trent Rockets picked Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur in the draft. Notably, the event started with Welsh Fire going after Sophie Devine, but they were left disappointed as Birmingham used the ‘Right To Match’ (RTM) card to keep hold of their player. In the meantime, Kate Cross got bought by Northern Superchargers.

A total of eight teams participated in the draft, and each side retained as many as four players except Welsh, who only rehired just two of their previous players. Meanwhile, 34 players got added in the draft, of which three were held back by the use of RTM.

Following this players’ draft, every team will fill out their squad in an open-market process before the commencement of the marquee event, which begins on August 1, with Trent Rockets taking on Southern Brave in the opening match.
