On Saturday (April 22) Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) led by Virat Kohli defeated the top-seeded Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 runs in the Tata IPL 2023. The match took place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

RCB managed to post 189 runs on the board after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. Skipper Kohli and Shahbaz Ahmed couldn’t score much and were sent back to the pavilion for a golden duck and 2 runs respectively by RR pacer Trent Boult. However, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell stood strong and provided RCB with a much-needed partnership. Following their departure, all the next batters fell quickly.

For the Royals, Boult and Sandeep Sharma picked up 2 wickets each, while Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal claimed one scalp apiece.

Chasing 190 for victory, RR opener Jos Buttler had to walk back to the pavilion without scoring any runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal then stabilised the situation and set a good partnership.

After 10.4 overs, the Royals were at 95/1. However, Padikkal was dismissed by David Willey soon after scoring his half-century, followed by Jaiswal who was dismissed by Harshal Patel. Skipper Sanju Samson tried to give some momentum to the run rate but was sent back by Patel.

Power hitter Dhruv Jurel scored an unbeaten 34y, but RR could only manage to score 182 runs after losing 6 wickets and lost the match by 7 runs to RCB.

So now, RCB have won 4 out of their 7 matches played and lost 3, while RR lost their third match in 7 matches.
