Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 2023: Paige Scholfield’s blazing ton propels South East Stars to big win over Thunder
Paige Scholfield

Paige Scholfield‘s impressive debut century led South East Stars to a convincing 131-run victory in their opening match of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 2023 against Thunder at Emirates Old Trafford.

Having recently moved from Southern Vipers to the Stars, Scholfield displayed an exceptional performance, scoring 111 runs off only 90 balls. Her impressive innings featured 11 fours and five sixes, and she joined forces with Alice Davidson-Richards to produce a formidable partnership, adding a combined total of 143 runs in just 115 balls for the fourth wicket.

Davidson-Richards contributed significantly to the partnership with a stylish knock of 73 runs. Apart from her, opener Kira Chathi chipped in with a valuable 48 from 83 balls, including five deliveries, as the Stars ended up scoring a massive total of 334/5.

In response, the Thunder just couldn’t get the desired momentum as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals to eventually get bundled out for 203. All-rounder Deandra Dottin was their top-scorer with 51 from 42 deliveries, including 5 fours and a maximum.

Freya Davies was the pick of the bowlers for the Stars, taking a three-wicket haul while conceding 27 runs in 8 overs, including 2 maidens. Similarly, Danielle Gregory (2/36) and Ryana MacDonald-Gay (2/40) picked up two scalps each.
