Gujarat Titans (GT) emerged victorious by 34 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 62nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday (May 15). Notably, the loss against GT ended the playoff hopes of SRH as they became the second team after Delhi Capitals (DC) to get eliminated from IPL 2023.

Asked to bat first, Gujarat did not start well and lost their opener Wriddhiman Saha with no run on the board. However, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan added 147 runs for the second wicket and powered their team to a competitive total of 188/9 in their allotted 20 overs. While Gill hammered a brilliant ton in the contest and scored 101 off 58 deliveries, Sai contributed with fiery 47 runs of 36 balls. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the standout performer with the ball for SRH. Bhuvi took a fifer in the clash and gave away just 30 runs in his quota of four overs.

In reply, Hyderabad got off to a disastrous start as they lost four of their batters on just 29 runs. Although Heinrich Klaasen scored a resilient 64 runs off 44 deliveries for SRH, he failed to get his team across the line. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma bagged four scalps each for Gujarat and played a significant role in restricting the Hyderabad-based side to 154/9 in 20 overs.

With the win, GT are now the first team to confirm their spot in the playoffs. Gill was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional knock.
