Sunday’s T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan in New York was a rollercoaster of emotions. While India emerged victorious in a nail-biting finish, Pakistan celebrities were left heartbroken and frustrated by their team’s collapse.

Pakistan’s hopes dashed

Pakistan started the match on a strong note, bowling out India for a modest 119 runs. Three wickets each from Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, along with Mohammad Amir’s two-wicket haul, had Pakistani fans jubilant and confident on social media. The early dominance even led to celebratory messages predicting victory.

However, the tide turned dramatically in the second innings. India’s bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah’s stellar spell of 3 wickets for just 14 runs, stifled the Pakistani chase. Hardik Pandya also chipped in with two wickets, leaving Pakistan struggling to reach the target. The initial euphoria amongst Pakistan celebrities quickly transformed into disappointment as the chase faltered.

Pakistan celebrities express discontent

Taking to social media, Pakistani celebrities voiced their frustration. Veteran actor Shaan Shahid expressed his deep disappointment with the team’s performance, questioning their commitment and calling them “jokers of cricket.”

“Team Green, you don’t deserve our respect, love, and support. You have become the jokers of cricket. The management and all of you have let down everyone who loves and breathes Pakistan,” Shahid said.

Actress Areeba Habib echoed the sentiment, criticizing the batting performance and highlighting Naseem Shah’s efforts.

“Big shame to Babar Azam and Shadab and all the batsmen. Thank you, Naseem Shah,” she remarked.

Singer Asim Azhar declared his frustration, stating he was done supporting the team.

“Goodbye forever. I’m done with this shit,” he wrote on X.

Podcaster Ahmed Ali Butt‘s anger was evident in his scathing remarks, criticizing the team’s selection committee and questioning their ability to compete on the international stage.

“Tum Log PSL Kay jogay ho! Jahan tumhari egos aur kingship chalti hay! Asal dunya main tumhari koi auqaat nahi! Aglay saal Pakistan will have to play for qualification. Gulli muhalay ki team tum logon say behtar hay. From shit selection committee to shit team.”

Actress Mawra Hocane captured the general feeling of exasperation amongst fans, lamenting the team’s inconsistency in crucial matches.

“Jab lagta hai jeetnay lagay hain, haar jatay hain. Jab lagta hai haarnay lagay hain, tab bhi haar jaatay hain. Jab lagta hai tournament sai nikal jayein gay, final mein pohonch kar haar jaatay hain. Jab lagta hay group k top 2 mein aahi jaein tab bhi group mein hee haar jatein hain. Itna tu bata dein k hum karein to expect kya karein?”

Looking ahead for Pakistan

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup hopes now hang by a thread. The loss adds pressure to their remaining matches and leaves their qualification for the Super 8 stage uncertain. The team will need a significant turnaround in performance and a series of favourable results to progress in the tournament.
