Trinbago Knight Riders struggle to build momentum

Speaking about the game, Barbados Royals Women began their campaign with a convincing 7-wicket victory over Trinbago Knight Riders Women at the Brian Lara Stadium. After winning the toss and opting to bowl, Barbados Royals restricted the Knight Riders to a modest total of 113/9 in their allotted 20 overs. The Barbados bowlers, led by Hayley Matthews and Amanda Wellington, put on a clinical display to keep the opposition batters in check.

Despite some resistance from Deandra Dottin, who scored 28 off 26 balls, and Shikha Pandey’s crucial 30 off 34 balls, Trinbago Knight Riders struggled to build momentum. Zaida James added a quick-fire 22 off 18 balls lower down the order, but Barbados Royals’ disciplined bowling effort made it difficult for the Knight Riders to post a competitive total. Chinelle Henry, Matthews, and Amanda Wellington each took two wickets, with Wellington particularly impressive, conceding just 14 runs in her 4 overs.

Hayley Matthews shines in Barbados Royals’ successful run chase

In response, Barbados Royals Women chased down the target comfortably, reaching 116/3 in 17.1 overs. Matthews anchored the innings with a superb knock of 67 off 56 balls, hitting 12 boundaries to keep the Royals ahead throughout the chase. Although Chamari Athapaththu was dismissed early for 5, contributions from Qiana Joseph (16 off 19) and Laura Harris (14 off 7) helped the Royals cruise to victory.

Jonassen was the standout bowler for Trinbago, picking up 2 wickets for 21 runs, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Barbados from securing a comprehensive win. Matthews was named Player of the Match for her all-round performance, which included 2 wickets and a match-winning half-century.
