ICC World Cup 2019: Indian fans cheers for ‘sexy’ Rohit Sharma; watch his wife’s reaction

Bharat Army, Ritika Sajdeh

The excitement level of Team India fans during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is too high. The fans, however, were left disheartened when Indian opener Rohit Sharma was wrongly given out caught behind against West Indies in Manchester.

Kemar Roach’s delivery left Rohit split open and there was a sound caught on the stump mic. The on-field umpire gave Rohit not out but West Indies captain Jason Holder made an appeal for a DRS.

Third umpire Michael Gough didn’t look thoroughly at the footage and reversed the decision taken by on-field umpire Richard Illingworth.

But soon after that incident, the biggest fanbase of Team India, the Bharat Army, came up with a quirky slogan which caught a lot of attention in the Old Trafford stadium. The slogan was funny as well as catchy which even made Rohit’s wife Ritika Sajdeh laugh.

To cheer for Rohit, several sloganeers started shouting “10 Rs ki Pepsi, Rohit Sharma sexy!” from the stands.

Ritika was sitting right above the sloganeers’ area.

World Cup 2019: Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, bowlers cruise as South Africa dent Sri Lanka’s semi-final hopes

South Africa beat Sri Lanka

Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla struck unbeaten half-centuries as South Africa coasted to a nine-wicket victory at the Riverside Ground on Friday to dent Sri Lanka’s hopes of making it to the 2019 World Cup semi-finals.

Du Plessis and Co. not only grabbed a consolation win but also dished out a clinical display with both ball and bat as they emerged victorious by a comprehensive margin.

Earlier, Sri Lanka had a disastrous start to their innings when captain Dimuth Karunaratne was caught at slip by Du Plessis off the first ball of the match, delivered by Kagiso Rabada.

Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando batted positively to take the score to 67 for one in the 10th over before Fernando mistimed a shot, sending the ball steepling into the air before it was taken by Du Plessis.

Perera was the next to go, chopping a Dwaine Pretorius delivery onto his stumps as Sri Lanka slipped to 72/3 in the 12th over.

Angelo Mathews was bowled by Morris for 11 and Kusal Mendis departed for 23. Every recognized batsman apart from Karunaratne reached double-figures but none went on to play big innings.

Brief Scores: South Africa  206 for 1 (du Plessis 96 not out, Amla 80 not out) beat Sri Lanka 203 (Avishka 30, Pretorius 3 for 25, Morris 3 for 46) by nine wickets.

The Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) on Friday unveiled Team India’s away kit for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Virat Kohli & Co. will sport a new orange jersey in their match against England at Edgbaston on Sunday, June 30.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had asked teams to wear an away jersey if the teams they were facing also wore jerseys of the same colour. Both England and India wear blue, and with the latter being the away team in Birmingham, they went in with an orange jersey.

Here’s how fans reacted to Team India’s new orange jersey:

World Cup 2019: Carlos Brathwaite fined for showing dissent at umpire’s decision in India loss

in Carlos Brathwaite/News/West Indies/World Cup
Carlos Brathwaite vs India

West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has been fined 15 percent of his match fees for showing dissent at the umpire’s decision in their 125-run World Cup defeat against India in Manchester.

Brathwaite was found to have breached article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct – which relates to showing dissent – during the match at Old Trafford on Thursday which Virat Kohli’s side won comprehensively to knockout the Caribbeans.

“The incident occurred in the 42nd over of India’s innings, when Brathwaite protested the umpire’s decision of declaring a wide off his bowling,” the ICC said in a statement.

Brathwaite admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Chris Broad, which also included the addition of one demerit point to his disciplinary record. He was handed one demerit point for a similar offence earlier in the ongoing tournament – against England on June 14 in Southampton.

Four or more demerit points within a 24-month period convert into suspension points.

Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test match or two short format internationals, whichever comes earlier.

ICC World Cup 2019: Sheldon Cottrell gives an awesome reply in Hindi to Mohammed Shami’s salute celebration

West Indies succumbed to a heavy 125-run defeat against India in the ICC World Cup 2019 league fixture at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday. This brought the former’s campaign to an end.

As the Indian players put up a dominating performance, a controversy erupted when Mohammed Shami mocked Windies pacer Sheldon Cottrell’s iconic salute.

It all happened in the 30th over of the second innings when Yuzvendra Chahal trapped Cottrell in front of the wickets for only 10. Following the dismissal, Shami, who was fielding within the 30-yard circle, came to congratulate Chahal, as he gave a salute to Cottrell, mocking the latter’s celebration.

Following the incident, there was an uproar on social media that Shami has disrespected the Caribbean Army.

It should be noted that Cottrell is a soldier on the Jamaican Defence Force and he is well known for his salute celebration.

Cottrell gives an awesome reply in Hindi:

Displaying sportsmanship, Cottrell didn’t get offended by the celebration of Shami.

Instead of retaliating, Cottrell took to Twitter to poke fun, commenting that he had great fun in the match against India.

He also remarked in Hindi, “Nakal Karna Hi Sabse Badi Chaploosi Hai (mockery is the best form of flattery).”

ICC World Cup 2019: Rohit Sharma takes a dig at third umpire after his controversial dismissal

in India/News/Rohit Sharma/World Cup

Rohit Sharma had to walk back early to the pavilion at the Old Trafford in Manchester during India’s World Cup fixture against West Indies on Thursday.

It was his second consecutive low score in the ongoing tournament but this time the dismissal left him disappointed as well.

The incident happened on the last delivery of the sixth over bowled by Windies pacer Kemar Roach. After going for a six and a boundary earlier, Roach responded with a peach of a length delivery that angled in and sneaked through Rohit’s bat and pad and carried to the wicket-keeper, Shai Hope.

There was a noise that was picked up by the stump mic but the on-field umpire, Richard Illingworth, paid no heed to the loud appeal made by the bowler. Convinced that they had got a wicket, the Windies side went for a DRS where the third umpire Michael Gough had to make the final decision.

The replays that were played on the big screen showed a spike on the UltraEdge and with “conclusive evidence” on the footage, the third umpire swiftly overturned the on-field umpire’s decision and ruled the Indian opener out.

Well, Rohit’s dismissal did not cost India much as they went on to beat West Indies by 125 runs. However, after the match, Rohit took a subtle dig at the third umpire’s decision through Twitter.

On his Twitter account, the Virat Kohli’s deputy posted a collage of pictures showing the moment when the ball went past the bat and it showed a big gap between the two. Rohit did not write anything but made his displeasure clear by posting two emojis.

India, meanwhile, moved to the second spot in the points table and also continued their unbeaten run in the 2019 World Cup. Batting first, India rode on fifties from Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni to score 268 for 7. In reply, West Indies were bundled out for just 143 in 34.2 overs.

MS Dhoni produced an all-round display to help India beat West Indies by 125 runs in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 league fixture at Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday.

The 37-year-old Dhoni first scored his 72nd ODI half-century to guide India to a competitive total of 268/7 on a slow Old Trafford pitch. He followed it up with a one-handed flying catch to dismiss dangerous Carlos Brathwaite – the man who destroyed Ben Stokes in the final of T20 World Cup 2019 and almost single-handedly beat New Zealand in their recent World Cup clash.

In the 27th over of the Windies chase, Brathwaite got a thick edge off the first delivery bowled by Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah. The ball flew between the wicket-keeper Dhoni and first slip, Rohit Sharma. But MSD lept to his right side and took a stunning catch.

ICC World Cup 2019 – WATCH: Rohit Sharma’s contentious dismissal leaves wife Ritika Sajdeh shell-shocked

Another umpiring decision became a hot topic of debate at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 when Indian opener Rohit Sharma was given out caught behind against West Indies at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday.

In the 6th over of the match, Windies pacer Kemar Roach had Rohit in a bit of bother by breaching the gap between bat and pad. The good length delivery had Rohit split open as Roach went up in appeal.

With umpire ruling not out, West Indies captain Jason Holder sought another look by taking the DRS. On the replay, it appeared there was a spike on UltraEdge as the ball passed through. Third umpire Michael Gough didn’t take long or even a second look before making up his mind and choosing to reverse the decision by on-field umpire Richard Illingworth.

Justifiably, West Indies team celebrated the early strike. But Rohit was left shell-shocked with the third umpire’s decision and so was his wife Ritika Sajdeh in the stands as the camera panned to her.

Rohit has scored two centuries in the ongoing World Cup. In India’s first match of the tournament against South Africa, Rohit scored 122 runs to help his side beat the Proteas by 6 wickets. He then scored 57 runs against Australia and a magnificent 140 in the match against Pakistan. However, he had a disappointing outing against minnows Afghanistan where he managed just one run.

ICC World Cup 2019: England captain Eoin Morgan responds to Kevin Pietersen’s “scared of Starc” remark

Eoin Morgan has responded after Kevin Pietersen accused the England captain of being ‘scared’ and ‘weak’ during the World Cup defeat to Australia on Tuesday.

Morgan could score only four runs at Lord’s as his team succumbed to a 64-run defeat against their Ashes rivals Australia.

The 32-year-old southpaw produced a record-breaking century in last week’s win over Afghanistan but failed against Australia, top-edging pacer Mitchell Starc to deep fine leg early in his innings.

Pietersen felt Morgan looked ‘scared’ when facing Starc and said he had not seen a captain ‘show such a weakness for a while’.

“Oh no, Eoin Morgan looked scared! That is a horror sign,” Pietersen tweeted, before adding: “The England captain stepping to square leg when Starc bowled his first delivery to him made me think England could have a little problem over the next week or so.

I hope not, but I’ve not seen a captain show such a weakness for a while…”

When Pietersen’s comments were read back by the reporters to Morgan following England’s defeat to Australia, he said: “Really? Excellent.”

Asked whether he agreed with Pietersen, Morgan responded: “No, no. It didn’t feel like that at all.”

Morgan & Co. now need to win at least one game out of their remaining two league matches – against India and New Zealand – to book a semi-final birth in the ongoing World Cup.

The Aussies were at their best when they locked horns with Eoin Morgan-led England in a World Cup clash on Tuesday. Australia went on to beat their Ashes rivals by 64 runs at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

After put to in bat, the Australian openers Aaron Finch and David Warner dominated the first but it was the England bowlers who came back strongly in the second half and ensured that their opposition was restricted to only 285/7.

Defending the total, Jason Behrendorff and Mitchell Starc started the proceedings in an extraordinary fashion, dismissing England’s James Vince, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan early. Ben Stokes played a fighting role but was cleaned up by a ferocious yorker from Starc. The left-arm pace duo ran through the lower order and England fell well short of the target.

Former English actress Sofia Hayat is once again in the news and the reason is Team India’s vice-captain, Rohit Sharma.

Not long ago, she grabbed the headlines after her old tweets on Rohit Sharma went viral. While Sofia maintained that her tweets are edited and photoshopped, she also revealed that she was in a relationship with the Indian opener for a year.

She had also admitted that things did not work out well between the two and therefore they moved ahead in their life. Now, she is back in the limelight after she reacted to a tweet by a Virat Kohli fan who started highlighting Rohit’s achievements and felt why should Rohit be with her.

“2nd richest indian celebrity according to Forbes 7th popular athlete according to espn Ab rohit ki aukat @sofiahayat ko date krne hi he to hm kya karen?” posted the Kohli fan.

However, the tweet did not go down well with Sofia and she hit back at the Twitterati. She said that it is the person and not what he has that matters.

“Nahin! I don’t value a person by what he has. His achievements are with balls on a field..not off! To me what matters most in truth..he doesn’t have that..on pitch he pitch is another story,” read her response.

Meanwhile, Rohit is in sublime form in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup. He has already slammed two match-winning tons for India, against South Africa and Pakistan.

ICC World Cup 2019: Ross Taylor reveals what he told Windies star Carlos Brathwaite after heartbreaking defeat

in Carlos Brathwaite/New Zealand/News/Ross Taylor/West Indies/World Cup

The packed Old Trafford stadium in Manchester on Saturday witnessed nothing less of a fairy-tale moment after an unbelievable bombastic century from Carlos Brathwaite just failed to carry West Indies to a historic World Cup victory over New Zealand by five runs.

In a brutal-array of last-minute cricketing, Brathwaite left the Black Caps dry-throated after crushing nine fours and five sixes as he came in to bat at 142 for 4 and scored 101 of the remaining 144 runs.

The demolition job was completed with a stunning 25-run attack on Matt Henry in the 48th over, the balance of the game now miraculously tilted in his favour with just eight runs required off the last two overs.

The feeling of awe was on both sides. This was, after all, the same batsman who had won the T20 World Cup in 2016 with four successive sixes off England all-rounder Ben Stokes in the last over of the match.

However, as things turned out he was caught by Trent Boult at deep mid-on going for glory with seven balls remaining.

After the knock, a shattered Brathwaite sat crouched on the field and bowed his head in deep sorrow. The moment was overwhelming and the pain truly unbearable.

The New Zealanders, who rose to celebrate the most important wicket of the match on seeing the devastated sight of Brathwaite, quickly broke out from their celebratory huddle and came to his aid.

The Kiwi players – led by Ross Taylor, Kane Williamson and Jimmy Neesham – came to console him with genuine warmth.

The former New Zealand skipper Ross Taylor, meanwhile, was full of praise for Braithwaite and revealed what he told the Windies star after the game was over.

“He batted outstandingly well and took his team out of a very tough situation and you’ve got to feel for him,” said Taylor.

“We were elated.. but at the end of the day you’re human as well and you’ve got to feel sorry for them.

“He did a fantastic job and we all just said to him at the end, “Congratulations on a great knock, keep your head held high because you did your country proud,” he added.

Danielle de Villiers shut down a rude fan who blamed her for AB’s retirement

in AB de Villiers/News/South Africa
Danielle, AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers retired from international cricket in May 2018 – exactly one year before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 – because he had “run of out of gas” and would focus on only playing in the T20 Leagues around the world going forward.

As South Africa implode on the world stage, AB is enjoying some quality time at home with his wife Danielle. He recently featured in the 12th season of Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and had a decent outing.

However, one of the fans couldn’t keep himself from subjecting his frustrations at Danielle who had posted a lovely picture on her Instagram with AB.

“I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words… How wonderful life is now you’re in the world. Much needed afternoon off with my one and only, confidant and bestie,” she captioned the picture.

Fan targets AB’s wife for ruining his life, says he would rather be at World Cup

One of the Instagram users didn’t like Danielle’s post and blamed her for being the reason why AB is not playing for South Africa in the ongoing World Cup. He mentioned that if it was not for her, AB would be in the ongoing ICC event and then said that she ruined the latter’s life and broke so many hearts.

Danielle came down hard on the rude fan and took him to the task. She mentioned that yes he would be happy to be playing for the national team in the World Cup. She also warned him sternly to not comment something on their marriage and asked him not to comment on her posts in the future.

Here’s what Danielle de Villiers’ wrote:

ICC World Cup 2019: Sachin Tendulkar unhappy with MS Dhoni-Kedar Jadhav’s slow partnership against Afghanistan

in India/Kedar Jadhav/MS Dhoni/News/Sachin Tendulkar/World Cup

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar admitted that he was not happy with the way India’s middle batsmen played against Afghanistan at the Rose Bowl in Southampton and felt that the batsmen lacked intent in the middle overs.

Tendulkar, in particular, pointed out the partnership between MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav, saying that the duo was just too slow in their approach while batting against the Afghan spinners.

“I felt slightly disappointed, it could have been much better. I was also not happy with the partnership between Kedar and Dhoni, it was very slow. We batted 34 overs of spin bowling and scored 119 runs. This was one area where we didn’t look comfortable at all. There was no positive intent.

“There were more than 2-3 dot balls. After virat got out in the 38th over and till the 45th over we hadn’t scored many runs. There were not enough outings for the middle order batsmen till now and that put pressure on them. But the intent could have been much better by the middle order batsmen,” Tendulkar was quoted as saying to India Today.

Dhoni and Jadhav added a 57-run partnership for the fifth wicket but also played out 84 balls for the same. Dhoni scored 24 off 36 in that partnership while Jadhav made 31 off 48 balls which slowed down India’s proceedings in the middle overs.

India, therefore, managed to post just 224 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs with Virat Kohli top-scoring with 67 runs.

“Kedar Jadhav was under pressure, he had not had an outing up until now. He needed someone to take charge of the situation early on but that did not happen. Both Kedar and Dhoni were not able to play at the required strike rate that they would have wanted. Those in-between overs could have been better and that is why Kedar was under a bit of pressure,” Tendulkar added.

The match turned on its head in the second innings as Afghanistan gave India a tough fight with Mohammad Nabi scoring 52 off 55 balls but the Indian bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah fought back really well to bowl out the Afghans for 213.

Mohammed Shami ended up with a hat-trick in the final over to seal the win for India.

Also, Dhoni who has been criticized for playing slow innings in the past was once again at the centre of trolls.

Let us have a look at some of the tweets:
