Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans faced each other in the IPL 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The match took place on the reserve day due to the washing out of the already-decided fixture.
The showdown on the reserve day started with some power-packed performances by music producer Nucleya and rapper King.
Popular Bollywood stars Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan also attended the summit clash of the 16th edition of the league.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, GT posted a mammoth total of 214/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
Sai Sudharsan top-scored for his team and contributed a brilliant 96 runs off just 47 deliveries to GT’s total.
The mid-innings of the event was lit up by rapper Vivian Divine and singer Jonita Gandhi.
Meanwhile, the second innings was interrupted by rain, and the game ultimately was cut short to 15 overs, with the MS Dhoni-led side requiring 171 runs to win.
Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a solid start to the Chennai-based team and kept them alive in the contest.
However, Mohit Sharma pushed CSK on the backfoot towards the end by striking two back-to-back dismissals.
The stunning spell from Mohit sent the game down to the wire with ten required of the last two balls.
When it almost felt like the game slipped from CSK’s hand, Ravindra Jadeja did the impossible for his side and smashed a six and a four to lead CSK to their fifth IPL title.
Emotions outpoured after Jadeja’s sensational finish, and Dhoni was seen lifting the all-rounder in joy.
CSK eventually were crowned the champions of IPL 2023 and equalled MI’s feat of most league titles.
Wives and children of CSK players also celebrated the triumph along with them.
Following the historic victory, Jadeja dedicated the win to Dhoni in a heartwarming gesture.
