Here’s a career recap of retiring England seamer Stuart Broad

Stuart Christopher John Broad was born in Nottingham to former England batter Brian Christopher Broad.

Broad’s birth was 12 weeks prematurely, and his life was saved by a doctor named John, who inspired his middle name.

He had a great interest in hockey during childhood and played as a goalkeeper.

Broad was educated at Brooke Priory School and finished his studies with three B grades at A-level.

He initially began his professional career at Leicestershire but later transferred to Nottinghamshire in 2008.

Broad had started as an opening batter following his father’s footsteps but transformed into a seamer as time passed.

He took his first 5-wicket haul against Surrey County Club.

Broad made his first international appearance for England in a T20I match against Pakistan on 28 August 2006.

His ODI debut came against the same opponents on 30 August 2006.

On 19 September 2007, Broad was smacked for six sixes in an over by India’s veteran all-rounder Yuvraj Singh in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup.

9 December 2007 saw the English seamer make his Test debut against Sri Lanka.

Broad scored his maiden Test fifty against New Zealand in a home series in the year 2008.

His impressive batting in the longest format continued, and his average rose above 40.

Many veteran cricketers started considering Broad a genuine all-rounder, with Geoffrey Boycott comparing him to Sir Garfield Sobers.

Broad holds the record of the second-highest Test score by a number batter. He slammed 169 runs against Pakistan in August 2010.

Once he sustained a nasty blow on his face off a quick bouncer by India’s Varun Aaron and was forced to leave the field immediately.

Broad was also a member of the England team that won the 2010 ICC T20 World Cup.

The right-arm pacer is one of only four bowlers to have two hat-tricks to his name in Test cricket.

He is also just the second fast bowler in cricketing history after compatriot James Anderson to take more than 600 wickets in the red-ball format.

Broad has decided to call time on his illustrious career after the conclusion of the fifth and final Ashes 2023 Test.
