Relive India’s 2013 ICC Champions Trophy Triumph

On this day in 2013, India lifted their fourth ICC title in the form of  Champions Trophy.

The Indian side started their campaign by defeating South Africa by 26 runs in Cardiff.

The second game saw MS Dhoni and Co. thrash West Indies by eight wickets.

The third match of India was against arch-rivals Pakistan, whom they defeated in a rain-affected game by eight wickets.

With the win against Pakistan, India sailed into the semi-final, where they faced strong Sri Lanka.

Indian bowlers put up an excellent performance and restricted Sri Lanka to a below-par total of 181/8 in 50 overs.

In reply, India chased the target in 35 overs with eight wickets in hand and booked their spot in the final.

India met the hosts England in the rain reduced 20 overs summit clash.

Asked to bat first, India struggled and could manage just 129 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.

Virat Kohli (43) and Ravindra Jadeja (33) were the main contributors for the Men in Blue with the bat.

Despite putting up an easy-to-chase total on the board, India did not lose hope and struck some early dismissals to stay alive in the contest.

England then lost wickets at regular intervals, and India eventually emerged as the champions by five runs.

Jadeja won the Player of the Match award for his valuable 33 runs and two wickets.

India’s star opener Shikar Dhawan was adjudged Player of the Tournament for his 363 runs in the event.

The Indian team celebrated the triumph in style as the players danced in joy after the title-clinching victory.
