Team India are all set to face Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 Final from June 7 to 11 at Lord’s.
Just like the previous season, India had a terrific run in the second cycle of WTC, claiming 10 wins and facing 5 defeats. Three matches were ended in a draw.
In the inaugural edition of WTC (2019-21), India suffered an eight-wicket defeat against New Zealand in the summit clash.
Let’s have a look at Team India’s journey in the WTC 2021-23:
India's first assignment was the 5-match Test series against hosts England. The tourists led the series 2-1 before the final Test was postponed to 2022 due to COVID. England, however, won the rescheduled match and the series ended 2-2.
In 2021, India beat New Zealand 1-0 in the 2-match series. The visitors claimed a draw in the opening game before India came back strongly and registered a 372-run win in the final match.
India toured South Africa for three Tests and the series was marred with controversies. India faced 1-2 defeat and Virat Kohli stepped down as Test skipper.
India played Sri Lanka in the 2-match leg which was Rohit Sharma’s maiden series as captain. The hosts dominated the proceedings and whitewashed Sri Lanka.
In late 2022, India toured Bangladesh for a 2-match Test leg under the leadership of KL Rahul. The visitors claimed a 188-run win in the opening match and a close 3-wicket triumph in the second Test.
India’s final assignment in WTC 2021-23 was a 4-match home series against Australia. The hosts clinched victories in first two games before Australia bounced back and defeated India in the 3rd game. The final Test ended in a draw as India secured a 2-1 series win.
