Wasim Akram, born on June 3, 1966, is acknowledged as one of the greatest bowlers of all time. He holds the world record for most wickets in List A cricket with 881 wickets. He is presently the mentor of IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.

1. Bowled on to 500
Wasim Akram became the first bowler to claim 500 wickets in ODI’s in the year 2003. He ranks 2nd in terms of the total number of wickets taken in ODI wickets after Muttiah Muralitharan.

He was known for his swing ability and tormented the best batsmen during his time.
3. Waqar & Wasim – Partners in crime
Wasim and Waqar were fondly called as ”The Two W’s” who were the co-founders of the reverse swing bowling. They formed a partnership and became one of the devastating duos in the cricket.
4. Accolades and Awards
- He is the only Pakistani to be named in Wisden’s World Test XI on their 150th anniversary.
- He is one of the few members to be included in the ICC’s hall of fame.
- He is ranked as the best bowler of all time with the rating of 1223.5, ahead of Allan Donald, Muralidharan and others.
4. Carnage in Zimbabwe
Akram too proved that he is good with the bat by scoring a double century in the Test match against Zimbabwe. With that feat, he became the only batsman in his batting position to do so at that time.

He took 4 hat-tricks in International cricket – two in ODI’s and two in Test matches, which is still a record till today.
