Former ICC and BCCI President, and the owner of IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings, N Srinivasan has said that the CSK team be back with a bang in IPL 2018 and MS Dhoni will be leading the charge again.
Speaking at the Madras Advertising Club Awards in Chennai on Friday, Srinivasan was quoted as saying, “If you are a CSK fan and are a cricket aficionado, you want to see MS Dhoni leading the side again in 2018. You want him to walk out wearing yellow. There is every possibility of that happening and next year we will be back with a bang. The absence from the competition has not affected the CSK brand at all.”
He also hit back at those who criticized the players and said, “You can accuse anybody of anything but you can’t accuse a single player. They just played. It was just pure jealousy.”
Srinivasan said that MS Dhoni embraced the city of Chennai and fans were more than happy to oblige. He recalled the time when they bid for Dhoni to lead the team, he had come fresh from winning T20 World Cup in 2007. Srinivasan added that Dhoni’s style of batting, his way of carrying the team on his shoulders took CSK’s performance to new levels every year giving Chennai fans one more chance to chant the Whistle Podu anthem.
The Chennai Super Kings will be back in action in the IPL from the next year, along with Rajasthan Royals, while the two replacement teams – Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions – will make way for them.
