In the 3rd match of the ongoing IPL T20, Australia star Chris Lynn and Indian veteran Gambhir Gambhir shared a record opening stand to give Kolkata Knight Riders victory in their opening game.
Both Gambhir and Lynn demolished the Gujarat Lions (GL) bowling attack to chase down a total of 184 runs set up by the home team in Rajkot.
184 is the highest target chased down by Knight Riders, also the highest in T20 cricket without losing a wicket. The previous highest was 171 by Perth Scorchers against Melbourne Renegades in Big Bash League 2015-16.
Gambhir and Lynn’s 184-run stand is now the highest opening partnership in the history of the IPL, surpassing the previous best of 167 put together by Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan against the Pune Warriors back in 2013.
