Rajendra Pant, Rishabh Pant’s father, passed away in his sleep in Roorkee on April 5 due to a cardiac arrest. The 19-year-old then traveled to perform his father’s last rites but after a day joined back the Delhi Daredevils team ahead of the opening game.
Rishabh not only lifted his spirits but also his cricket bat and smashed a 37-ball-56 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, almost winning the game for his side.
Now, the Delhi batsman has finally revealed why he played the match against RCB. The Navbharat Times quoted Pant as saying, “This (against RCB) was the toughest inning of my life. My father always wanted me to play cricket. His dream was to watch me play for India for a long time. This is why I decided to play the game against RCB. It was because of my father that I wanted to play the game. It was tough for me to handle myself but I got over my emotions somehow.”
