The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 on Monday.
The slight element of surprise was the inclusion of Manish Pandey but considering his form it is not much of a wonder. Manish made the cut in the final 15 above names like Rishabh Pant, Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik who have been giving consistent performances.
However, these three have been included on the standby list for the upcoming tournament.
The selectors have kept five players as the backup in case any of the members of the 15-man squad gets injured. The standby players include Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik.
All 5 of them will be training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru while team India will be playing the matches in ICC Champions Trophy. As soon as any player gets injured, the suitable candidate from these five will fly to England as cover up.
BCCI is making sure that visa and other paperwork of all these players are done in advance so that there is no delay in the departure if required.
