Afghanistan’s Shafiqullah Shafaq smashes double century in T20 cricket

Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman Shafiqullah Shafaq recently smashed a double century in a T20 match of local tournament, Paragon Nangarhar Champion Trophy in Afghanistan.

Playing for the Khateez Cricket Academy, Shafaq scored 214 runs from just 71 deliveries with the help of 21 sixes and 16 fours. against the Kabul Star Cricket Club.

Shafaq’s blistering knock helped Khateez Cricket Academy to set up a mammoth total of 351 in just 20 overs. He got support from his brother Waheedullah Shafaq at the other end who scored 81 from 31 balls smacking 10 fours and 3 sixes.

In reply to Khateez’s total, the Star Cricket Club were bundled out for just 107 runs and lost the game by a huge margin of 244 runs.

Shafaq has been a regular member of Afghanistan national team since 2012 and has played in the last three ICC T20 World Cups: 2012, 2014 and 2016. He was also a part of the Afghan side during ICC ODI World Cup 2015 held in Australia and New Zealand.

He struck a 28-ball fifty against Ireland in the bilateral ODI series held at Greater Noida in March, equaling Mohammad Nabi’s record for the fastest fifty for Afghanistan.
