India is in Sri Lanka for the upcoming series and the team is full; they have experienced lads, star players making a comeback and also some promising young talent.
The players who are returning from injuries will be trying to get their old touch back whereas youngsters will be looking forward to making their selection worth.
Here are the top 4 players on which everyone will keep their eyes on:
Rohit Sharma
Due to the knee injury, Rohit Sharma was ruled out in a midway of the series against New Zealand in October 2016 after which he had to go for surgery in London.
The Mumbai lad is now making a comeback in the Test team in place of Karun Nair who failed to show consistency after a big triple hundred against England last year.
Rohit has to make this series count since he doesn’t have the numbers in his favour in Test and there are many candidates in the queue to replace him. It will be interesting to see his comeback in the playing XI; he may be warming the bench if team management decides to go with 5 bowlers.
The right-hander scored two half-centuries in his last tour of Sri Lanka. But this time, his approach towards Rangana Herath will be crucial as he is not a recognized batsman against the left arm spinners.
Shikhar Dhawan
It won’t be an exaggeration if one says that Shikhar Dhawan has his stars around him since April. After replacing KL Rahul in Champion’s Trophy, the southpaw will replace injured Murli Vijay on Sri Lanka tour.
Though Vijay’s injury will hurt the team but Shikhar, who is coming in the Test side after September 2016 is at the top of his form and will be excited to grab this opportunity so as to get back his place in the Test team as well after the ODI berth. Since Shikhar is experienced and in a good touch, Abhinav Mukund will have to wait for his chance until someone is injured.
KL Rahul
The stylish right-hand batsman, KL Rahul, is making a comeback in the team after Australia series. He has been a permanent choice for an opener in the Tests because of his performances in the last few series. Rahul missed the two big tournaments like Champions trophy and IPL due to injury and therefore, fans are eagerly waiting to see him in action once again.
The Karnataka lad scored 6 half centuries in 7 innings when he played against the Aussies. KL has a ton registered on his name in last Lanka tour. In the absence of Murli Vijay, he now has to play with more responsibility. Though he is capable of it, with his class, his temperament will also be tested in the initial phase of his innings.
Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav is the new variation in India’s spin attack. The left arm Chinaman made his Test debut in Dharamshala against Austraila. When Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were struggling a bit in the final Test, Kuldeep came out as a surprise and took 4 wickets in the first innings.
Captain Virat Kohli showed faith in him during the West Indies tour as well, so it won’t be shocking if we see him in playing 11 from the first match. Certainly, Kuldeep comes with a rare talent and there are not many of his bowling styles in the world so far and therefore everyone will keep a special eye on him.
