Team India is in a hurry to wrap up the ODI series in their favor after dominating the Test series against Sri Lanka. India is also keen to experiment with their options and that’s why prime spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested and leggie Yuzvendra Chahal along with left armer Axar Patel were brought back in the squad.
While making these changes in the squad, Kuldeep Yadav is the name which is yet to make in playing 11, for some unknown reasons.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli chose Chahal over Kuldeep for the first 2 ODIs against Sri Lanka even after Kuldeep had a great series in West Indies. He took 8 wickets in four matches he bowled in West Indies and then he again got a chance against Sri Lanka in the 3rd Test when Jadeja was under a ban of one match, he performed there as well and took a fifer in a match.
Kuldeep is not having his bid when the team has both Jadeja and Ashwin is acceptable but giving an edge to Chahal over him will be disheartening to him as well. He is one of a kind bowler and his fine form is the best time to cherish a talent like him for the future.
Kuldeep is lethal on dry wickets and he got his piece of applause from all the quarters. His craft in action and control on the variation surprised many in his initial games across all formats, but if he won’t get enough time to prove and practice some easy looking games against Sri Lanka, he might find himself in a pressure against big series.
The 19-year-old Chinaman certainly doesn’t deserve to sit on the bench at least after not doing anything wrong. He has shown a glimpse of what he can do with the provided opportunity and therefore, he must be given a fair share of chance. We should expect his comeback in the 3rd ODI after ordinary spells of Chahal in first two ODIs.
