There are knocks which change the career of players and the perceptions of those around. And Manish Pandey will always be remembered as the first Indian to score a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In one night, Pandey went from being Karnataka’s next big Ranji hope to entering the record books. Life after that hasn’t been exactly smooth for the right-hander as he witnessed a mixed run of form in the domestic circuit.

Manish performed well for Team India in the recently concluded tour of Sri Lanka and proved that he has the potential to succeed at the highest level.

Here are the top 11 interesting facts about Manish Pandey that you should know:

1.) Born in Nainital, Manish Pandey came to Bangalore with his family at the age of 15. His father was employed with the Indian Army. When his father was transferred to Rajasthan a few years later, the right-hander decided to stay back to pursue a career in cricket.

2.) Manish has represented Karnataka at Under-17 and Under-19 level. He was also a part of India’s U-19 World Cup team in Malaysia in 2008.

3.) His trademark half-sweep-half-flick shot – where he aims to go for the sweep but just stretches towards the ball and flicks it, mostly towards midwicket, was the talk of the town in Bangalore during his early days.
