Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has bought one more team, but of course, not in the IPL. She has purchased a stake in a cricket team called Stellenbosch franchise based out of Boland Park in Paarl.
South African skipper Faf du Plessis is also the captain of the team that Preity Zinta owns now.
Interestingly, Preity has now joined actor Shah Rukh Khan who also owns another cricket team in South Africa’s T20 Global League that is being captained by old warhorse JP Duminy.
“This was not a planned move so I just went with the flow. Some things are meant to be. We have been making profits in Kings XI Punjab in the past but now it will be a different story. Managing Kings XI has been an unbelievable experience and I hope too that forward to Stellenbosch,” said Preity when asked about what prompted her to buy the Paarl based side, according to TOI.
The bubbly actress was then questioned whether it would be a threat to IPL if the Indian players take part in the T20 Global League. To which the actress replied, “No. I don’t think that the Indian players taking part in other T20 leagues would be of any threat to IPL.”
When Preity was enquired about her opinion of T20 being the future of cricket, she replied: “If the game has to grow worldwide then, yes, because of it’s a three-hour format. It’s easier for fans to relate to and it’s fast & exciting.”
Meanwhile, at the logo unveiling event, Preity also explained the significance of her team logo. She ensured that the logo of the Stellenbosch Kings was similar to that of the King XI Punjab.
“The shield signifies strength and power, the color red shows passion, and the lion represents the South African fighting spirit,” said Preity.
“This message is for all the women out there – I hope every South African woman supports the Stellenbosch Kings, no matter what part of the country they live in. Girl power!” she added.
