Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Monday visited the company’s India Development Centre in Hyderabad and there he revealed his love for test cricket.
Since a child, Nadella wanted just one poster in his room – his cricketing hero and Hyderabad cricketer, ML Jaisimha. When Nadella went on to pursue his career in the United States, Sachin Tendulkar made his entry into international cricket.
As Nadella had put it in an interview with ESPNcricinfo, “I look at it and say, wow, I missed the entire Sachin era of Indian cricket.”
But do Nadella still follow cricket? And does he have any favourites? Well, the answer is yes!
Although Nadella is not into T20 leagues, he adores Test cricket. Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin are special for Nadella, but it is Rohit Sharma who tops Nadella’s list of favourite cricketers.
He finds glimpses of VVS Laxman in Rohit’s style of playing.
In a special interview with The Times of India (TOI), Nadella has spoken of his love for cricket and Rohit.
On love for Test match and Rohit Sharma
“I do follow cricket passionately, though I’m more of a Test match fan. I’m not so much into IPL. I think Virat is very special, and I’m amazed at Ashwin’s versatility as a bowler. I also love watching Rohit Sharma play. Some of his shots and the follow-through remind me of VVS Laxman. He seems to have so much time to play his strokes.”
On India’s rise in cricket
“It’s awesome to see India field a genuinely hostile pace attack. In fact, the whole team – their fielding, athleticism, professionalism – is something else. It is fantastic to see Indians play like Australians.”
