Mitchell Starc has created history in sensational fashion at Hurstville Oval after becoming the first bowler to take two hat-tricks in the one Sheffield Shield match.
Ahead of the start of Australia’s Ashes campaign against England, Starc sealed a 171-run victory for New South Wales when he completed his second hat-trick against Western Australia on Tuesday.
Having removed Jason Behrendorff, David Moody and Simon Mackin in the Warriors’ first innings to complete his first career hat-trick, the left-armer eyed the unfathomable when he removed Behrendorff and Moody again off the final two deliveries of his 15th over.
He returned to bowl the 78th over for NSW and dismissed Jonathan Wells caught by Smith on the first ball, to wrap up the match with a historic feat.
Also, Starc has become the eighth bowler in first-class cricket history to manage two hat-tricks in a match.
