MS Dhoni rarely exhibits his emotions on the cricket field. But even he was moved to tears after he led his team to victory in the 2011 ICC World Cup at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
Dhoni, who hit a six in the final against Sri Lanka to seal the World Cup in India’s favour on April 2, 2011, has admitted that he cried after Harbhajan Singh hugged him tightly.
When Bhajji hugged me, I couldn’t control
The book ‘Democracy XI’ penned down by the renowned journalist Rajdeep Sardesai has revealed this secret in which Dhoni has himself admitted to the fact.
The incident happened when everyone started hugging Dhoni after the gigantic six he hit over the long off and Ravi Shastri in the commentary box erupted. The captain cool couldn’t control his emotions when Harbhajan Singh hugged him with the tears of happiness.
“Yes, I cried, but the cameras didn’t catch it. I was naturally excited but held back the emotions till a tearful Harbhajan hugged me. That’s when I got teary-eyed but kept my head down so no one would see me crying,” Dhoni said as quoted in the book by Rajdeep Sardesai.
