The modern era of cricket has seen a number of superstars. From MS Dhoni to Virat Kohli, from AB de Villiers to Steve Smith – fans are crazy about their stars. Likes of Dhoni, Kohli and Rohit Sharma has millions of fans in India.
However, Telugu film diva Poonam Kaur, who was present in Vishakhapatnam to watch the final ODI between India and Sri Lanka, walked all the way to the commentary box to meet her idol Sunil Gavaskar and took a photo with the little master.
While speaking to the reporters, Poonam said, “I have the utmost respect for him (Sunil Gavaskar). He is very a humble person”. When asked whether she is also a big fan of current Indian superstar cricketers, she quipped: “Who isn’t? Of course, I look up to them, but he (Gavaskar) is at the top of my list.”
Gavaskar is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all-time. He set numerous world records during his career for the most Test runs and most Test centuries scored by any batsman. He held the record of 34 Test centuries for almost two decades before it was broken by Sachin Tendulkar in 2005.
The Mumbaikar was the first person to score centuries in both innings of a Test match three times. He was the first batsman to score 10,000 Test runs and now stands at number 12 on the group of 13 players with 10,000 plus Test runs.
