Suresh Raina clears the ‘Yo-Yo’ endurance test at the NCA in Bengaluru

The failure to clear the ‘Yo-Yo’ endurance test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru was the primary reason why Suresh Raina was not considered for the limited overs series against Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

The Indian team regularly undergoes a series of fitness tests with ‘Yo-Yo’ endurance test being the most important of them. It is an advanced version of the ‘beep’ test that was used by teams of earlier generations. The current Indian team is considered to be the fittest by a fair distance.

It has been revealed that for the current Indian team, the acceptable ‘Yo-Yo’ score is 19.5 and upwards. Virat Kohli, the fittest Indian cricketer, scores easily around 21 in the test.

But, here is a good news for Suresh Raina fans.

The southpaw has cleared the much talked ‘Yo-Yo’ test at the NCA on Wednesday.

Ecstatic Raina confirmed the news with a post on his Twitter handle. “Cleared my Yo-Yo & fitness test today, after days of hard work at #NCA! Received tremendous support from all the trainers, coaches & officials. Thank you all! It’s always so encouraging to train here at #NCA, motivates me to push my limits and bring the best out of me.”

So now, Raina would be hoping for a place in the Indian team for the limited overs series against South Africa which is scheduled in February next year.
