Twitter reactions: India tump Sri Lanka by 88 runs after Rohit Sharma’s sensational century

Stand-in India captain Rohit Sharma arrived at the Holkar cricket stadium in Indore in complete Friday mood as he sent both Sri Lanka and the crowd into a tizzy with a mind-boggling exhibition of big-hitting. With 12 fours and 10 sixes that amounted for 108 off his 118 runs, Rohit rode his way to an incredible hundred, the joint-fastest in T20Is, equalling David Miller’s 35-ball blitzkrieg against Bangladesh earlier this year.

Eventually, in the 2nd game of the series, Team India concluded their 20 overs with 260 runs for the loss of 5 wickets; which is now the joint second-highest team score in T20 Internationals.

Sri Lanka were up chasing a mountain. More often than not a team would have submitted meekly but they weren’t going down without a fight tonight. Kusal Perera and Upul Tharanga gave the Indian bowlers a taste of the bitter pill hitting sixes one after the other as both Indian wrist spinners had an expensive day in the middle.

Though they couldn’t carry on for longer as Kuldeep Yadav claimed three in his last over to finish with figures of 3/52, Yuzvendra Chahal also came back to scalp the wickets and concluded his four overs with 4/52. The visitors lost the plot and the scoring rate was way beyond achievable and as Hardik Pandya bowled Dushmantha Chameera, the Men in Blue won the match by 88 runs.
