MS Dhoni stepped down from the captaincy of Indian limited-overs side in early January last year but continued his career as a player.

Now, he is no less than a mentor of the team in the field under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.

Dhoni with his prolific batting turned the games in India’s favour during critical stages on several occasions, also his glove work behind the stumps was as sharp as ever throughout the year.

Here the top 5 records created by MS Dhoni in International cricket in 2017:

1.) MS Dhoni broke the record of most number of not outs in ODI’s – 76. He went past Chaminda Vaas and Shaun Pollock’s 73 not outs in this format.

2.) Dhoni now holds the record for most number of fielding dismissals in the T20I format. He made 76 dismissals in this format with 47 catches and 29 stumpings. He went ahead of AB de Villiers who made 72 fielding dismissals in T20Is.

3.) Dhoni became the first player to affect 100 stumpings in ODI’s. He surpassed Kumar Sangakkara’s 99 stumpings in this format and now has 105 stumpings to his name.

4.) 130 number of times Dhoni remained unbeaten in International cricket which is the most by any player. He went past Muttiah Muralitharan’s 119 not outs across all formats during the Sri Lankan tour.

5.) Dhoni became the most capped wicketkeeper in International cricket by featuring in 488 matches. He went past Mark Boucher’s 466 matches as a wicketkeeper across all formats.
