A fangirl meets Suresh Raina after a wait of nine-years

A second-year BSC student, Akansha Ghosh, who calls herself the biggest fan of Suresh Raina, had a dream come true when she met her cricketing idol during the ongoing Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy at the Jadavpur University Salt Lake campus on Wednesday.

Akansha waited for long nine years to meet Raina.

“I have been following Suresh Raina’s game since I was in Class VI. I feel today is the luckiest day of my life. I finally got to meet him after a long, long wait. He is my god,” the fangirl was quoted saying while speaking to TOI.

Akansha, a student of multimedia animation and graphic design, was spotted shouting Raina’s name from the stands during Baroda vs Uttar Pradesh match.

“I tried meeting him at the hotel where the UP team is putting up but even after waiting for eight hours on Tuesday, I could not do so. However, I left a sculpture of his made by my father at the hotel,” she informed. On Wednesday, Akansha reached the ground at 6 am. “Raina came around 7 am. On seeing me call out his name, he came near and I clicked a selfie. I am thrilled,” the girl said.

She also collected tickets for the matches Raina played in Kolkata. Even her room has pictures of Raina, some of which were gifted by her father.

“Raina has said he believes that something wonderful is going to happen. I have full faith in his words and that’s why I waited to meet him. This was my only opportunity. During international matches or IPL, meeting Raina is always tough,” Akansha added.

As Raina hit towering sixes against Baroda, Akansha and her friends were seen enjoying every moment of the thrilling innings. “I hope UP plays the finals on Friday. I would love to watch him bat at the Eden Gardens again,” Akansha concluded.
