Ever since the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has retired from the game of cricket, his son Arjun Tendulkar is in the spotlight. The youngster has been performing exceedingly well and interestingly, he is an all-rounder. He has recently played some good cricket in the various arena. The junior Tendulkar has impressed everyone with his skills.
Recently, Arjun stole the show in a Twenty20 match in Australia with his all-round performance. He was described as the “darling of the tournament” by Australian media as he turned up for Cricket Club of India (CCI) in the Spirit of Cricket Global Challenge at Bradman Oval in Bowral.
It would have been easy for Arjun to follow in his father footsteps and mastered in batting but he chose otherwise and became the fast-bowling all-rounder. However, he has revealed the reason for him becoming the pace bowler and how his stint with Pakistani legend Wasim Akram helped him.
Akram taught Arjun how to shine the ball
Arjun Tendulkar explained that he used to love fast bowling since his childhood. He also revealed that the likes of Wasim Akram, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Johnson are his favourite bowlers.
“I just grew taller and got stronger. And I just loved bowling fast in my childhood. So I thought I might as well be a fast bowler because there’s not many in India,” he was quoted as saying by BBC.
Arjun also cleared that he took up cricket seriously only after playing various sports. “I used to play many sports as a kid, football, swimming, running, taekwondo. And then cricket just developed, while everything else took a back seat. Zaheer Khan, (Mitchell) Johnson, (Mitchell) Starc and Wasim Akram. At the moment it is Johnson and Starc. Very privileged to get advice from all of them. Wasim Akram basically told me how to grip the ball and swing the ball. And he taught me how to shine it,” he added.
The young Mumbai lad from Mumbai also revealed the secret he learnt from the ‘King of Swing’ Wasim Akram. “Whenever you put spit on the ball you have to throw it around. When the spit dries rub it (ball) on the pant. The main thing is to keep it away from the sweatiest guy in the team,” the son of an iconic cricketer concluded.
On a reminding note, Arjun has undergone a cricket training for many years in England and has a huge fan following among the English female cricketers.
