IPL 2018 Auction: Players for whom Rajasthan Royals could use RTM card

Along with Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals (RR) will also make their comeback in this years IPL. Promoting raw talents and make the most of them has always been the specialty of RR and their retention shows the same indication in the future as well.

Royals retained only Australia captain Steve Smith from their past squad clearing the air that they are willing to build the team around him.

The Rajasthan franchise has the liberty of retaining 3 Indian capped players or 2 uncapped players or one overseas player or a combination in the mega auctions. But the problem for them is that they do not have a strong strength remaining in the back for using RTM card, therefore, it will be interesting to see whether they will go for any RTM use or will they go for full fresh team?

All-star players of RR are now the part of other franchise except Smith, Rahane and James Faulkner. Having Steve Smith already in the retentions, Rahane and Faulkner automatically become the strong contenders for RTM card use.

Let’s talk about India’s Test deputy Ajinkya Rahane first, Ajinkya was a part of Rajasthan from a long time and in spite of not being the destruction for the opposition he always managed to give good starts to the team and set the platform. Rahane’s flawless batting technique and superb fielding is always beneficial for a team in T20s.

Considering James Faulkner for the retention will be crucial; RR will be only interested in him if the bid doesn’t go much high. Faulkner certainly has strong IPL history and he was an ace player for Rajasthan but his current form doesn’t reflect the likes of the old all-rounder. He is not the part of Australian cricket team anymore and his last year’s IPL performance was also ordinary so if other franchisee shows less interest in Faulkner he might get a chance to play for RR.
