Kings XI Punjab co-owner Preity Zinta actively participated in the IPL 2018 auction held in Bengaluru.
Among the first round unsold players, KXIP picked Mayank Dagar for INR 20 Lakhs, who apparently is Virender Sehwag’s nephew.
Sehwag is the mentor and Director of cricket for Punjab.
Mayank Dagar was a key member of India Under-19 World Cup squad in 2016. He was India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. After warming the bench for the first two games of the World Cup, Dagar played all the other games including the final. In the 4 games he played in the mega-tournament, he took 11 wickets at an average of 9.36, a strike-rate of 19.4 and an economy of 2.88. His strike-rate and average were among the best in the tournament.
Dagar has a decent first-class record. He has taken 30 wickets in 11 games at an average of 34.53. In the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the 21-year-old left-arm spinner took 4 wickets in 5 games.
