India dominated the play throughout the day to win their first game of the ICC U19 World Cup against Australia on Sunday.
While defending a total of 328/7, India bowled out Australia for 228 to win their first game of the tournament by 100 runs. The boys in blue picked up regular wickets in the Aussies chase and did not let them go past the total in the second innings.
Batting first after winning the toss, the Indian openers Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Kalra set the match up beautifully for their side. Shaw top-scored for India. He made 94 runs off 100 deliveries. The 180-run stand at a run-rate of over 6 laid the platform for India to score big. Players in the middle-order and lower-order played some brilliant cameos to take the total past 300.
Chasing such a huge total down, Australia didn’t seem to be comfortable at any stage of the game. Their top 4 players have done decently well but were slow. As the required run-rate was getting higher, the Aussies kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Indian bowlers were highly disciplined and bowled the right lines and lengths. Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti picked three wickets each dismantling the Australian batting order. The remaining two wickets were picked by Abhishek Sharma and Anukul Sudhakar Roy.
Cricket fraternity and fans on Twitter also lauded young Team India’s performance.
The batting looked solid, the bowling was on target with some serious pace and the boys were at their best in the field. Congratulations on this great win. #FutureStars in the making for sure. #U19CWC #IndvAus @ICC @BCCI @cricketworldcup @StarSportsIndia
